Bake this quick and easy puff pastry apple turnover recipe idea for a delicious dessert. Create this tasty apple and cinnamon spiced filling with bought puff pastry sheets or homemade if you prefer. But bought sheets of pastry work well. An Oven Bake crunchy apple pie or turnover for a treat or dessert for a tea or snacks.
Do you bake puff pastry before filling?
Not necessary to bake the puff pastry before you add fillings. The fillings are added to the unbaked square pieces, then folded over and sealed with egg wash and pressed together with a fork. Egg washing the top of the pastry so that they can brown nicely. Poke the top of the pastry with a fork for the steam to be release while baking.

How To.
In a large bowl, combine the chopped apples, white sugar, flour, apple pie spice, salt, apple cider vinegar and lemon juice. Let it stand for about 10 minutes.
Preheat the oven. Roll out the puff pastry and cut into squares. Placing the apple filling in the one side of the square. As you would fold over the pastry to close of the turnover that would of been basted with egg or milk to seal it. (see the recipe attached for detailed method.)
A sheet of bought puff pastry rolled out lightly to cut the squares out for the turnovers.
Baked apple turnovers that are a nice light brown from the egg brushed on top.
Serve for a snack or a dessert or a treat. Most delicious with cream served or serve warm for the best taste.

Ingredients
- 5 apples, cored and chopped
- 1 Cup of white sugar
- 2 Tablespoons of flour
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon or apple pie spice
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1 Tablespoon of apple cider vinegar
- 1 Tablespoon of lemon juice
- 1 Packet of puff pastry (bought)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the chopped apples, white sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt, apple cider vinegar and lemon juice. Coat the mixture well with all these ingredients and leave to stand for about 10 min. or so.
- Preheat the oven 180 Deg. C, and grease two baking sheets and line with wax proof paper, greased for the baking.
- Cut the puff pastry into squares, and place a tablespoon of apple mixture in Centre. Brush the sides of the pastry with whisked egg or milk to seal them well. Fold over the pastry and press with a fork to seal them.
- For them to brown nicely, brush the tops of the pastry with the egg as well. Poke a hole with the fork on the top.
- Place the turnovers on the lined baking pans.
- Bake in the oven for about 12 minutes until brown and cooked.
- Leave to cool on a cooling rack before serving.
