This cheesesteak with juicy beef, gooey cheese, and caramelized onions is ready faster than you can imagine. The classic version of this famous dish is served in a bun. A Philly steak sandwich is made just like this recipe says. Using rib eye or filet mignon tender steak strip cuts. What kind of cheese is on an original Philly cheesesteak?
With this recipe we used provolone cheese which melts very easily and suits the recipe well. You can use mozzarella or other cheeses that melt easily.
What other meat can you use for Philly cheesesteak?
Normally you use the tender cuts such as rib eye, but if you don’t have that then use sirloin, skirt or flank steak and even filet mignon. It has to be tender thin strips of beef to fill a bun or a pocket or sandwich that will be edible.

- breadcrumbs
- sliced bell peppers

To make the cheesesteak pockets you will need egg bread and white breadcrumbs. For the stuffing choose a soft piece of beef – ribeye steak or filet mignon. As for the cheese, sliced provolone is ideal. It melts instantly and pulls thin strands after heating.
How To
With the steak you choose to use, cut them into strips, to fry with the onions and peppers.
Prepare the bread pockets. Break the egg into a bowl and beat lightly. Place the breadcrumbs on a flat plate. Fold the bread pieces in pairs and dip into the egg mixture. Transfer them to the breadcrumbs and coat all sides. Brush off any excess breadcrumbs. Then deep fry both sides.
Peel and slice the onion into rounds. In a hot pan, fry the onion and beef until browned. When the meat and onions are almost done, add the bell peppers. continue cooking for 1-2 minutes.
Salt and pepper the contents of the pan and stir. Divide the stuffing into two equal portions. Cover each part with cheese and wait for it to melt. Spoon the filling into the bread pockets, tamping it down lightly.
The bread pockets can be deep-fried or pan-fried. We fried them in a pan. Heat the oil in a pan and fry the bread pieces on all sides. Don’t forget to fry the sides. Transfer the bread to a board and cut it diagonally. Insert foil balls into the holes to create deep pockets. Do this before the fried bread cools down.
Salt and pepper the contents of the pan and stir. Divide the stuffing into two equal portions. Cover each part with cheese and wait for it to melt. Spoon the filling into the bread pockets, tamping it down lightly.
