When should you add dressing to coleslaw?
Adding the dressings or sauces before you serve the slaw as the sauce could make the crunch in the vegetables very soft. When adding the sauce or dressing add a little at a time and toss to mix the coleslaw up. Serve with the dressing in an extra bottle for adding when served.
Is it best to make coleslaw the night before?
The coleslaw taste better made ahead of time. But not with the sauces or dressings in. This will make the crispiness of the vegetables softer. Taste the slaw before serving to see if it is still crispy and good to serve. Then add the sauces and toss. This can be done at least 15 minutes before time.
Why does my homemade coleslaw go watery?
To prevent the slaw from going watery and soggy you should add the salt before the sauces. Place the veggies in a colander and salt them then toss them around and leave for about an hour until you see the liquid has run out. Chill in the fridge while it does that. To serve for a salad then add the sauce.
Do not leave the slaw at room temperature as this will make the slaw loose its crunch, when you place it in the fridge it should be covered an in a sealed container.
