Easy Homemade Fig Jam
The easiest homemade fig jam that is sweet and has vanilla flavor. A No Bake stove top cooking recipe with few ingredients. Fig jam is used as a condiment for toasts, or sandwiches, and for filling in desserts such as bars and cookies. Stores well in bottles and keeps well in fridge when opened and used.
Do figs need to be peeled for jam?
No, figs do not need to be peeled for making jam. The skins are edible and brings a lot of flavor to the jams. Eaten raw and fresh is great for those that love the taste. You get purple and green colored skin on figs.
How long does fig jam keep?
Well bottled fig jam can last on the shelf of a cool and dry pantry for up to a year. If opened it is best to keep in the fridge until used. In the fridge it should last at least 6 months.
How do you know when fig jam is done?
If the jam drops and falls of the spoon easily then it is not thick enough and need to simmer more. When the jam does not fall off the spoon easily then it is thick enough to remove from the heat and bottle.
Does lemon juice thicken jam?
Lemon juice helps the pectin to firm up the jams. It also balances the sweet flavors of the jam. But remember liquids will take longer for you to cook the jam. The jam should simmer until the test done is correct and enough liquid has been evaporated.
Ingredients
- ripe figs (purple or green)
- castor or fine powdered sugar
- organic honey
- lemon
- vanilla extract
How To
Clean and cut up the ripe figs, measure all ingredients.
Add all the ingredients to a pot on the stove top. (except the vanilla extract) On a medium heat, heat up these ingredients. Stirring now and again until the sugar is melted into the jam.
Bring this liquid to a boil. Then reduce it to a medium heat and stir occasionally for 45 minutes. As the mixture thickens it could stick to the bottom of the pot, so stir often and watch the jam.
Remove from the stove and add in the vanilla extract. Remember to test the jam to see if it falls off of the spoon to fast, then its not done yet. If it does not fall off immediately then it is done.
Add the fig jam mixture into clean and sterilized jars for storage.

- 1/2 cups of fine sugar
- 1/2 cup of organic honey
- 1 lemon juiced
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
