Grilled Corn on a Braai or Barbecue
Grill this delicious easy corn on the cob on the braai or barbecue for a side dish. Goes well with meats for meals. Such as lunch or dinners. Butter dotted on top of the warm corn that is salted, makes it so tasty and all family will love it. Its an easy and popular South African meal to go with the braai.
Can you grill corn on a charcoal grill?
Yes, grill the corn on the grill over the charcoal or wooden fire. Which has been reduced to coals, for braai or barbecue of all foods. It tastes delicious with salt and dotted with butter. Eaten warm with the meal.
How long does corn on BBQ take?
The corn or mielies (a South African name)will take about 15 -20 minutes to cook. Turning every now and again so the corn can be cooked equally. We wrap it in foil to keep the warmth in. But it is great as is getting a little chard. To check if it is cooked with a fork or sharp knife, the corn kernels will be soft, then it is done.
Is corn better grilled or boiled?
The corn may be grilled or boiled. Both ways are great, but my favorite is the grilling on the braai or barbecue. It seems to be softer and juicier. Boiling is easy and fast, also dotted with butter and salt before eating or serving. So Yummy!
Ingredients
- Mielies (Corn) Whole stripped of the leaves.
- butter, to dot on after cooked.
- salt and pepper.
In the recipe attached you will get the amounts needed and the instructions on how to grill this corn or mielie on a braai or a barbecue. Absolutely so delicious.
How To
Pull off the leaves from the corn or mielies, and have your braai or barbecue turn to coals first. You only need to grill these corns for a short while and do not need the fire or coals to be extremely hot. A warm coal will suit the grilling better. Turn often until all sides are done. Should take only 10 – 12 minutes until they are tender.
Remove from the grill and salt and pepper them and spread some butter to melt over the corn or mielies. Eat warm just as is. Off of the cob or cut them in half, for a more sizeable serving.
The best and simplest way to eat mielies on the cob or corn. So delicious and warm and tasty you will never want to eat them another way. For a better way to eat them is to stick a skewer or a fork in the middle of the cob and hold them that way. Less messy, but that’s what a South African braai is about.
Eating the food with your fingers. With great family and company and sitting around the fire chatting about memories and family funny stories. Staring into the fire in the evening or lunch time, having some drinks or cool drinks and enjoying the company.
